Darci Lenker

Darci Lenker is an Oklahoma fiber artist best known for miniature works made of thread

“Embroidery combines my love for drawing and fiber art. For me, the process of creating art is just as important as the end result. I enjoy extended projects that grow little by little over time.”

Inspiration from everyday life

Darci earned her Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in Formation Art, focusing on Fiber, at the University of Central Oklahoma. Embroidery is her chosen medium because it combines her love of drawing and fiber. She takes inspiration from everyday life and uses art as a daily practice, where the process of creating art is just as important as the end result. She is a professional artist and frequently shows work in exhibits around the state.

The act of creating art is as important as the end result

Embroidery combines Darci’s love for drawing and fiber art. For her, the process of creating art is just as important as the end result.  She enjoys extended projects that grow little by little over time.

“My first year-long project was in 2016, when I embroidered a different circle every day. There were many events that happened to inspire my work that year, from elections to deaths of celebrities to science happenings.

“In 2017, I did a 365 day project in which I embroidered a tiny food every day and gave it away to someone with the agreement that they would donate food, money, or time to helping hungry people. Part of the appeal of this was to be able to let go of my possession of my art, and not expect anything personally in return.

“This year has been the year of building my portfolio and really focusing on miniature embroidery in whatever form, from portraits to animals to famous artwork. I am always finding new ways to challenge myself and enjoy it immensely.”
