Dawn Cohen
I believe in the power of observation in art. I have devoted my time as an artist to only making paintings on site, in plein air. Plein-air is a French expression that means ‘in the open air,’ and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors, through the direct observation of the landscape. Working at the site records the passage of time.
A Shared Experience of Time and Space
When painting outside, I am receiving information from all the senses. It allows for me to fully investigate the landscape. When you look at my plein-air landscape, I am hoping to share my experience of time and place.
Georgia and Colorado
Dawn Cohen was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1972. Dawn began her college studies at the University of Georgia completing a BFA in Art Education in 1994. She found herself back in Savannah shortly after college and began developing as a painter. In 1996 she moved to Ft. Collins Colorado and received a Masters of Fine Art at Colorado State University. After graduating in 2002 she moved to Crested Butte and has been painting there and in Savannah, Ga. on paintings trips to this day.

2017 Won the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival Poster Contest.
2016 Painting Display in Warren Miller’s Film ” Here, There, Everywhere.”
2015 Taught a 4 day plein air workshop, “Painting in the snow, with Dawn Cohen.”
2014 Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational, at the Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery.
2013 Plein Air Painting Show at Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery, Telluride, Colorado.
2012 Artists of the West Elks annual art show at the Gunnison Art Center.
2011 First Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational Art Show. At Oh-BeJoyful Gallery.
2010 Guest artist with the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters annual show in Crested Butte, CO.
2009 Participated in the Telfair Art Fair in Savannah GA. Participated in the Crested Butte Art Fair.
2008 Won the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival Poster Contest.
